Easy migration from spreadsheets to Laburo

Importing your job application data to Laburo

This guide walks you through migrating your job application tracking from Google Sheets (or Microsoft Excel) to Laburo. Move from spreadsheet chaos to organised success.

Tired of juggling job applications in a sprawling spreadsheet? Ready to ditch the manual tracking and embrace a more streamlined approach? This guide will walk you through importing your existing data from Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel directly into Laburo, so you can start owning your job application journey!

What you'll need:

  • The Google Sheet or Microsoft Excel spreadsheet you’re already using to track your job application data.
  • A Laburo account (free to sign up at www.laburo.io/signup).
  • A few minutes of your time!

Step 1: Preparing your spreadsheet data

Before we can import anything, we need to make sure your spreadsheet is in the right format. Laburo requires a CSV (Comma Separated Values) file with columns separated by commas (,).

Make sure your sheet columns (usually the first row) have the following names:

Mandatory columns

Company: The company or organisation where you're applying to.

Status: Application status or phase. Supported values must be one of the following:

  • Application: In application phase. You've applied but have no feedback yet.
  • Screening: For applications in the screening stage or with screening already scheduled.
  • Interview: For those either in interview stage or with interview(s) already scheduled.
  • Offer: Congratulations! You've received an offer for this application.

Application Date: The application date in the format DD/MM/YYYY.

Optional columns

Contract Type: Depending on the contract, accepted values must be one of the following:

  • Full time | Part time | Zero hour | Casual | Freelance | Fixed term | Other

Location: Where the job is located, e.g. City or City and Country.

Job Advert Link: Link to the job advert. Prefer link directly to the job advert in the company website, usually in the "careers" or "jobs section".

Source: Where you found the job advert, e.g. LinkedIn, Indeed, etc...

Job Search Link: Link to the job advert in the website where you found the job, if applicable.

CV: Link to the Curriculum Vitae you used for the application. e.g. in your Google Docs or Dropbox.

Cover Letter: Link to the Cover Letter you used for the application. e.g. in your Google Docs or Dropbox.

Notes: Any relevant notes about the application.

Job Advert: A copy of the job advert.

Step 2: Export your spreadsheet

Now that the column names and date formats are aligned with Laburo, here's how to generate that from both Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel:

A. Exporting from Google Sheets:
  1. Open your Google Sheet.
  2. Go to File > Download > Comma-separated values (.csv). This will download a CSV file to your computer.
B. Exporting from Microsoft Excel:
  1. Open your Excel spreadsheet.
  2. Go to File > Save As.
  3. In the "Save as type" dropdown menu, select CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (.csv).

Step 3: Importing your data into Laburo

  1. Log in to Laburo: Go to www.laburo.io/login and log in to your account.
  2. Navigate to your profile: Click on your profile icon (usually in the bottom left corner on desktop or top menu on mobile) and go to Tools.
  3. Find the "Import job applications from CSV" section and either drag-and-drop your CSV file into the Choose file box or click on it to select the CSV file you created in Step 2. The import process will start immediately.
  4. Laburo will attempt to automatically map your spreadsheet columns to its fields. Review these mappings and adjust them if necessary. Any column in your spreadsheet that is not supported, will be added to the “Notes” section.

Step 4: Verification and cleanup

  1. Review imported data: Once the import is complete, take a moment to review your imported applications within Laburo. Ensure everything looks correct and that the data has been mapped as expected.
  2. Address any issues: If you encounter any issues (e.g., incorrect mappings, missing data), you can always manually adjust individual entries.

That's it! You’ve successfully migrated your job application tracking from a spreadsheet to Laburo.

Now you can take advantage of Laburo's powerful features like automated advert monitoring and centralised organisation. Just go to your application and enable job advert monitoring. It’s as easy as that to own your job application journey!
