Redundancy when you were already thinking about a career change

I had already been thinking about taking a new direction with my career when the decision was made for me through redundancy. I'd been in my career a long time, so it almost felt like a natural response to start looking again for the same sort of job. But at the same time, I couldn't get past wanting to try something else.

For about a year before I was made redundant, I had been thinking about starting my own business. I worked in learning and development and coaching was my favourite part of it. I wanted to do coaching on its own, rather than as one piece of a much bigger role.

When I was made redundant, I felt shocked. The shock took over every other emotion until the sadness came, about what I'd left behind when it wasn't my choice. I loved my job and my team. Whilst I was processing the sadness, the relief also started to come through. This might be my chance to try something I'd been thinking about doing for the past year, to move it
