The Thirty-Second Filter on Senior CVs

The average senior CV gets between thirty and ninety seconds before the filter decision is made. I know because I made those decisions for twenty years.

When I was running global talent acquisition, every senior search produced somewhere between sixty and two hundred applications. A search consultant or internal recruiter would scan them and split them into three piles: yes, maybe, no. The yes pile was rarely more than ten CVs. Most of the no pile got there in under a minute.

Most of the senior CVs that ended up in the no pile got there for the same reason. They told me what the person was responsible for. They didn't tell me what changed because that person was in the role.

That's the difference between a job description and a CV. It's also why the majority of director and VP-level CVs never reach the person who actually decides who gets interviewed.
